Idea's for Wind?

As I continue working on this project I find that I am having a great deal of trouble figuring out what else to include on the film that can represent WIND. All of the other elements FIRE, WATER, and EARTH seem to be easier in representing colors. With WIND, I have been going with a lot of grey, blue, and then I have a problem. No other colors really represent WIND because it doesn't have a color. WIND can only be seen through the breeze that blows leaves and tree limbs. Hair can be blown by wind. Basically objects can be affected by wind but wind cannot be seen in the air. I was watching "The Fifth Element" on TBS the other night and watched to see the stone that represented WIND and it was 3 squiggly lines. Awesome, that helped a lot. Squiggly lines I already have drawn on the film. I might leave the rest of the film to be covered by magazine clippings. All in all, I am having a lot of fun experimenting with the 16mm film.

Painting on Film

It is Sunday and with the day being free of football I plan on painting something on those film strips. In my group, I'm doing EARTH and WIND. Earth doesn't seem that bad so far because you can draw almost anything to express the theme of Earth. The colors I am using will express the colors of Earth which generally include a lot of browns and greens. It is rather difficult drawing or painting on such a small 16mm film strip but I am trying my best. It also doesn't help that I am a TERRIBLE artist. My art skills resemble those of a 5 year old. I don't know why I'm such a bad artist, I guess some of us are just born with better skills than others. I'm going to try to incorporate some of the other methods we learned in class including the magazine-tape transfer and some scratching of the film with sandpaper, razer blades, and keys. The WIND part of this project seems to be the most challenging. I'm using a lot of light blues and greys to get the symbolism of wind. I plan on trying to draw a tornado to show the ultimate destruction of the wind funnel. I'm just hoping to make it look less ridiculous than I imagine it being in my head. I find that the Sharpies are easier to control then the paint. We have been using fine tip sharpies so far in this project and it seems like those will be the most heavily used tools. As I continue with this project of painting on film I will let you know which parts seemed to work out better than others. I am interested to see how this will be seen on screen. I am a little confused about the soundtrack part of the assignment, but if it bought us some extra time to experiment with the different methods then I like it.

Launch

This is a test blog to see if this is working correctly. I am trying to figure out how to draw "WIND" on my film strip. Maybe trees blowing leaves or hair flowing in the breeze.
